Well it was a hard week for my training partner the week I got sick. The weather was not exactly conducive for training in and those are the weeks that we rely on each other the most. The lesson I learned now is not to invite him to spend time with me whilst sick or I will destroy my own training routine too.

The bacteria that invaded my trachea and sinuses decided to 'expand their operations' to my training partner and did so quite effectively. They found the most fertile land for their move, though, in his lungs. His history of lung problems including pneumonia in the last two years has made his susceptible to lung problems and this time I was responsible for is annual wipe out.

So, I expect that I will be without a training partner for the coming two or three months. The only positive news that has come of this is that he will be referred to a respiratory specialist and that he has also discovered Xylitol nasal spray which I am sure we will hear more about in our media future.

Xylitol,basically, is a natural sweetener, that was re-discovered by the Finnish during World War II. The sweetener interferes with the function of bacteria and the spray is an effective killer of bacteria in the nasal passage.

It is also interesting to read about how, unlike highly processed sugar products that are used as an artificial sweetener, this amazing product cannot be utilised by bacteria that live in the mouth for energy and teeth destruction. So, by replacing the sugars in your diet you can effectively kill off those nasties that cause you tooth decay by starving them of the sugar they need to function.

Interesting though, but it is not likely to win me over until they start producing their own chocolate!
